OTHER ACTIVITIES OF THE DIAMOND CLUB |
| As mentioned on other pages of this web site, the Sheboygan Diamond Club is involved in many community activities. Some of the major activities are listed below: | |
| Sheboygan Softball Association | |
|
The Sheboygan Diamond Club grew out of the Sheboygan Softball Association and has continued to give its wholehearted support to that organization. Activities such as advertising in schedule books, outfield fence signs, toys for tots contributions, and sponsoring of two major softball/baseball tournaments each year as well as sponsoring teams help the advance of their program. Contributions have been made to support their building programs, purchase of scoreboards, and the installation of lighting systems at both Kiwanis Park and Wildwood Athletic Park. $6000 being contributed to their recent lighting fund for Wildwood. Recently the
Sheboygan Athletic Club renovated
their ball park and sought out financial support for their efforts.
The Diamond Club took the opportunity and contributed over $6000
to their improvement project at their Mary Testwuide Knauf Field. We
continue to promote the A's program by advertising in their program
booklet and on the outfield fence billboards.
In 1997, a group of parents were looking for some type of baseball program that would provide the above average talented youth the opportunity to play competitive baseball with other communities. They approached the Diamond Club for financial support and again the Diamond Club rose to the occasion and has contributed over $5000 for equipment, uniforms and other expenses. Since then, they have now become part of the Sheboygan A's program, but still receive financial help from the Sheboygan Diamond Club. | Community Recreation Department | |
Community |
The Sheboygan Diamond Club has been a close partner with the Community Recreation Department and their programs. In recent years, the Recreation Department developed a "Field of Dreams" project that consisted of developing two different facilities for their athletic programs. On the north side of town, a facility was developed that was to provide additional baseball diamonds for their youth programs. It is also used for soccer during the non-baseball months. On the south side of town, at the Horace Mann Middle School, an area was developed to provide additional facilities for the soccer program in our area. The Sheboygan Diamond Club contributed $6000 to this project and an additional $1000 to help provide lighting for the main soccer field. An additional $1200 was used on the installation of a lights at the Kiwanis Park baseball field. We continue to sponsor teams in both the boys and girls baseball and softball summer programs and their American Legion program. The Recreation Department knows that if funds are available, we are ready and willing to lend our financial and physical support for any of their programs if necessary. The Sheboygan Optimists sponsor the Tri-Star "Run, Hit and Throw" contest each year for both boys and girls ages 8-13. In this competition each boy or girl has to pitch to a target, bat the ball, and run the bases and is then scored in each of these skills. Awards are presented to top three individuals of each age bracket and they can qualify for state competition. Each participant receives a T-shirt in remembrance of this event. The Sheboygan Diamond Club is a substantial financial supporter of their T-shirt program. Anyone interested in this competition may write jwigs47@hotmail.com |
